Hey Fam. Alesia here with a hip injury update. As some of you know, I’ve been down with this — and without medical care — since June 21st. Around July 12th, still in pain and quite desperate, I started searching the web for answers, hope, and help. I found all three! Including a proper brace for my messed up ligaments and muscles, and a miracle cream that made it possible for me to stand and sit upright again, without pain. Yay!!

The lack of proper medical diagnostics and care was a real problem, but it wasn’t personal.  As you probably know, a lot of folks put off care they needed during the pandemic. Now, they’re rushing back to clinics that are severely overburdened and understaffed. The wait times for appointments are now measured in months, not days or even weeks. If I had taken the first appointment I was offered back at the end of June, I’d STILL be in agony, thrashing around in bed, waiting for that appointment!

I’m happy to say that I’ve had three consolations in all this.

  • The first is that I have a husband who took care of me when I couldn’t get up for myself, and who packed up the responsibility for everything around here and put it on his shoulders so I didn’t have to worry.
  • The second are the good friends who helped so crucially by making purchases of medical supplies when our money ran out.
  • The third? =heh= Believe it or not, it’s that I’m uninsured. I’m not paying money out of pocket every month to get denied urgently needed care. I can’t imagine how infuriated I would be right now, if that had been the case!

Back to work—but carefully

So, I’m working my way back to full functioning. A month in bed cost me some muscle tone and endurance, for lack of a better term. I can’t be up as long as I’d like without tiring and getting cranky. I visited the website of The Center for Spine and Orthopedics to find some good physical therapy exercises I could do at home, carefully. I’m doing a handful of them every other day, and I’ll be adding in more as strength and wind return.

This is the first time I’ve looked at the shop and blog in over a month. I spent this morning recollecting what the hell I’d been doing before I went down. I’ve got some ideas, and I’ve even got a plan, but for now I’ve got to bug out and get some rest. Peace out, everyone. Leave me a comment or reach out to me on Instagram. I’d appreciate hearing from you!
