“Die Mad About It” was inspired by a tweet by Melanie Dione (@beauty_jackson),. It became the viral battle cry for every woman who is fed up. Fed up with having to explain or excuse the fact that she uses contraception for any reason! But mainly, because liking sex doesn’t equal liking pregnancy and/or babies anymore. If it ever did.
Though I’ve loved every needlework version of this that I’ve seen so far, I couldn’t resist going for something big. I just felt that if you’re going say this to someone, you really ought to mean it — and this is the chart to stitch when you really want to enunciate it clearly, like a fucking lady.
In Die Mad About It, the Colors Are Significant
I chose the red and gold colors for flames, but in darker shades. That’s because the rights of women to control their bodies and their own destinies is an OLD fight. The bolder color choices signify that we’re not giving up! I chose a fairly dark gray for the scroll-style borders because the principle in question is a non-negotiable line. Flowery vines or bunnies and birdies just would not do. The lilies are to honor that it is a women’s issue — and a reminder that women’s issues are human issues.
The wisps of lighter gray? They felt like smoke or steam to me — either one implies a heat source, right?
Featured colors are in red and gold, but I encourage stitchers to experiment with their own color combos — and by all means, send us the pix of your favorites!
