For “Question All Paranoia” I wanted to design a counted cross stitch pattern that could take a solid whack at our inner demons. You know, the ones that make us doubt ourselves, and which rear their butt-ugly heads at the worst times ever. As such, this wasn’t going to be a design for subtlety, and subtext was neither needed nor wanted. Because, when I’m in the grips of anxiety or depression, I need the message to be clear-cut, with no ambiguity. That way I can’t fail to miss it no matter how deeply into my own funk I am — and I know I’m not alone in that.
Question All Paranoia: and help a friend with theirs, too!
You know those voices that tell you that you’re worthless? Or the ones that tell you everyone secretly hates you? And that your every slight and mistake, intentional and unintentional, will be remembered and resented by everyone you know forever? These are the voices that excoriate you endlessly for that misspoken word in front of your boss, and wake you up at 3 am to replay that exchange over and over and over? They’re also the ones nattering in the back of your mind over how you’re doing it wrong. And that nobody really likes you, anyway?
Those voices lie. And lie, and lie. They do not mean you well. Do not listen to them.
Stitching Question All Paranoia is a way to keep that message close. Then, when you can finish it make it into a journal cover so it’s there for you when you need a visual reminder. Or back it with fabric, stuff it, and keep it around as a little pillow to squeeze when your fears are circling.
If you know someone who is suffering, you can stitch this for them, too. It’s a strong, constant reminder against those voices that do not love us. And to assure us that we deserve so much better.
Help us spread the message!
Mental health is an issue that’s close to our hearts, here at the Crossing. And, because we and nearly everyone we know has lost someone to suicide, it’s prevention is one of the causes we choose to support.
70 cents (just over 10%) of your purchase will go to Project Semicolon to support suicide prevention and help end the stigma against mental illness.
And hey, if you’re looking for something a little lighter? It’s not a Karma Charm, but How Crazy I Am is our tribute to the immortal Carrie Fisher, who knew a thing or two about how to navigate inner hellscapes, too.
And here are some lifelines, just in case
